The SBI Feedback Model

A structured approach to giving clear, constructive feedback that reduces defensiveness and promotes growth.

Situation

Describe the specific situation where the behavior occurred. Be specific about when and where.

Example

"During the morning standup meeting yesterday..."

Behavior

Describe the actual, observable behavior. Keep it factual and avoid judgments or assumptions about intent.

Example

"...you interrupted Sarah three times while she was presenting her update."

Impact

Describe the result of the behavior. How did it affect you, the team, or the project? Use "I" statements.

Example

"It caused Sarah to lose her train of thought, and I felt the team missed out on hearing her full update."
