Mentorship Guide

A framework for establishing a successful and impactful mentor-mentee relationship.

Roles & Responsibilities

The Mentee

  • Drives the relationship: Sets the agenda and schedules meetings.
  • Owns their growth: Identifies goals and areas for improvement.
  • Is open to feedback: Actively listens and reflects on advice.
  • Follows through: Completes action items between sessions.

The Mentor

  • Guides, doesn't fix: Helps the mentee find their own answers.
  • Shares experience: Offers stories and lessons from their own career.
  • Challenges assumptions: Asks probing questions to expand thinking.
  • Provides resources: Suggests books, tools, or connections.

Setting the Foundation

The first session should be a "Chemistry Check" and agreement setting. Discuss:

The Mentorship Agreement

Logistics: How often will we meet? (e.g., Bi-weekly for 45 mins). How long will this partnership last? (e.g., 6 months).

Goals: What are the top 3 things the mentee wants to achieve?

Confidentiality: Agree that what is shared in sessions stays in sessions.
